Obituary

UNDERWOOD, Joseph (1932 - 2021) -

It is with great sadness that the family of Joseph Underwood announces his passing on March 8th, 2021, he passed away quietly at Oshawa Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Joe was married to the love of his life Yvonne, for more than 67 years. He is survived by his brother Frank (Pat) and sister Harriet and predeceased by Mary, Connie, and Joan. He will be remembered as a loving and supportive father by his children Linda (Ray), Joseph (Tracey), Stephen (Rose), Douglas (Susan), and Andrew (Erin). Joe and Yvonne had many memorable days with their ten grandchildren and were very proud of having five great-grandchildren. Born in Montreal, Joseph grew up in East York, Toronto, marrying Yvonne in April 1953. He joined the Toronto Fire Department in 1955 and soon was able to combine his love of photography with his career, earning the moniker, Captain Kodak. Joe rose to the rank of Deputy Chief and retired after 38 years on the job. His leadership, friendship and teaching will long be remembered.
Joe had many wonderful adventures with his wife and family. Whether it be camping in Killbear Park, sailing Lake Ontario, or travelling Canada and Europe, he enjoyed it all with the same beautiful smile. This strong, kind and quiet man will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Words of condolence or memories may be shared at W.C. Town Funeral Chapel at www.wctownfuneralchapel.com.

There will be a private family service following cremation. To honour Joe’s memory donations may be made to Covenant House or the charity of your choice.
