BARTLETT, Jean Dow (née Paterson) -
Jean, beloved wife for 61 wonderful years of the late Robert Henry, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on May 11, 2020 at the Ina Grafton Gage home. Loving mother of Stephen (Debbie), Debbie (Michael) and Norma (David). Cherished Nana of Erika (Kurt), Heather (Jeremy), Christopher (Melissa) and Vanessa. Much loved great-grandmother of Jack and Austin Byres, and Brooke and Amy Gardner. Dear sister of the late Robert Paterson and the late Elizabeth (“Bunty”) Elder and sister-in-law of Barbara Bartlett. Lifelong friend of the Shinn family, the Germaines and the late Bill Blyth. Jean will be sadly missed by all her extended family, neighbours and many friends. She was a longtime member of Victoria Park United Church and a Life Member of the Daughters of Scotland. Due to the present situation, there will be no service at this time. A memorial service and reception honoring Jean’s remarkable life will follow at a later date. Donations in her name may be made to The Royal Canadian Legion or the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region. We will miss her charm, wit and loving embrace. Arrangements are entrusted to the W. C. Town Funeral Chapel in Whitby. Condolences may be expressed to the family at

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there. I did not die.

I remember your mother very well. Debbie - you and I went to Clairlea together. My mother passed away 2 days ago at 98, and we have been very lucky to have had our mothers for so long. My thoughts are with your family.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Jean, it was both Jean and Bob, Mary & Len and all the wonderful times we all had with Boy Scouts, the trips to the United States and so many other times shared will always be treasured memories for me for the rest of
my life. How wonderful to have had the opportunity of having the whole "tribe" in my own life. With sincere and thankful
happiness of what made my world very much better because of being with them all.

Thank you for your words John. I tried to get in touch with you by phone but I have lost your number and wasn't sure of your address. Mom always loved you and spoke very highly of you. The Bartletts hope you are well. Sincerely Debbie Lodge

Dear Stephen, Deb and Norma Jean,

So sad to learn of the passing of your Mum. Ahhh.. Mrs. B. I remember a quick sandwich for the hockey game going on in our driveway. .. somehow I was often in net ! The time you helped Norma to pack up and move out and a call to my Mum that she was on her way to ask Brian to go with her. The race to the Bay for tea towels. Good family times shared and remembered with love. Judy (Garrett)
