Obituary for Norberto Da Silva Vieira

VIEIRA, Norberto Da Silva -

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Norberto Da Silva Vieira, of Cookstown on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. Norberto passed away peacefully at the age of 63 at Matthews House Hospice.

Norberto was born on June 6, 1959 in Sa Da Bandeira, Angola. He travelled the world on cargo ships in his early working years and enjoyed sharing stories of his adventures with everyone. He met his wife, Maria, on a beach in Portugal and it was love at first sight. They married in Portugal on April 9, 1983 and he joined her in Canada shortly after. Norberto was a jack of all trades and worked in many different industries. He became a proud Local 183 Union member in May 30, 2000 and then a Local 183 Union Representative in February 2017.

Norberto loved spending time with his family and friends and celebrating everyone’s life moments, whether it was playing cards, going camping, enjoying a glass of whiskey. He will be remembered for being the life of every party and the easiest way to find him was to look on the dance floor. Norberto was always there for anyone any time they needed a helping hand. He loved baking and cooking for his family and was known to bake his famous breads and special occasion cakes and hand deliver them to his friends and family.

Norberto was a passionate hunter and fisherman and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his friends, the “Good Shot Crew”, moose hunting. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, playing golf and watching his favourite football team S.L. Benfica play with his son.

Norberto leaves behind his loving wife Maria Vieira. He will be remembered as the loving father to Jessica Brace (Harry) and James Vieira (Liliana). Proud Vôvô (grandfather) to Alyssa, Melanie and Harry Jr. Devoted son of Lucinda Da Silva and the late Joaquim Venancio. Dear brother of Fatima (Jorge) Vieira and Anabela (the late Mario) Campos. Norberto will be fondly remembered by his sister-in-law Celia (Frank) Ortino. Norberto will be held dear in the hearts of his many nieces, nephews family and friends.
