Obituary for Billy Turner

TURNER, Billy -
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Billy on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at the age of 60 years. Billy was born on July 15, 1962, in Toronto. Beloved first-born child of Phyllis (nee Dempsey) and William “Bill Sr.” Turner. He was the loving and devoted husband to his wife Kerry for over 32 years and the much loved father of Jake and Sam. Cherished brother of Steve (Susan Moore) Turner, Elaine Turner (Tim Kallem), Marty (Christine) Turner and Lesley (Andy) Price. Dear son-in-law to Gayle (the late John) Hozack and brother-in-law to Brad Hozack and Derek (Margaret) McCallum. Bill also leaves to mourn many nieces and nephews, who will carry with them many fond memories and life lessons from Billy and an appreciation for 80’s music. He will be held dear in the hearts of many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, neighbours, and colleagues in Canada and Ireland. He is predeceased by many aunts and uncles and his sister-in-law Greer Hozack.

Billy grew up in Rexdale in a large and boisterous Irish family. He continued to live there minutes from his childhood home and the homes of many of his siblings. Billy was a proud member of LIUNA. He loved all sports. He passed on his love of golf and fishing to his sons and nephews. A summer for the Turner family would not be complete without Bill’s annual Hallow Open Golf Tournament. He loved playing hockey in his youth along with Steve and Marty and coached Jake and Sam when they played minor hockey for the Etobicoke Bulldogs. Billy was the family handyman, and his work is evident in the homes of all of his siblings. If Billy could not fix something, he would know the person who could.

Resting at NEWEDIUK FUNERAL HOME, KIPLING CHAPEL, 2058 Kipling Avenue, Toronto (north of Rexdale Boulevard), on Monday, January 16, 2023, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Benedict Parish, 2194 Kipling Avenue, Toronto, on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. If desired donations to ALS Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family.
