Obituary for Harry Francis Tytler

TYTLER, Harry Francis -
Passed away peacefully at William Osler Hospital on January 12, 2023 at the age of 94. Beloved husband of June (nee Daniels) for 69 years. Lovingly remembered by his children Russel (Sylvia), Michael (Mei), Christopher (Frances), David (Andrea) and Peter (Valerie). Loving brother of the late Phyllis Clogstoun and the late Gordon Tytler. Loving Papa of Laura, Jake, Michael, Kristyn, Jordan, Han Bai Yang and Alexander. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
Harry was born in Colombo, Ceylon on December 6, 1928. During his youth he attended Wesley College where he was granted the prestigious “Hill Medal” in 1946. This award was given every year to the student with the highest percentage of marks in a school of approximately 5,000 students. Harry immigrated to Canada in 1964 from Ceylon. He started work at the Canadian National Railway in 1965 and retired from there in 1993 after 28 years of devoted service.
Harry was a committed member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Etobicoke and was greatly involved with the St. Vincent DePaul Society as a volunteer for many years. Harry enjoyed doing his crossword puzzles daily. He was truly a clever man and as such was given the opportunity to participate in the television show “Definition”. His favorite past time was sitting in the front yard with his beloved wife, June. They spent quality time gardening together and feeding animals, such as birds, squirrels and even the occasional skunk.
Harry’s family will receive relatives and friends at the NEWEDIUK FUNERAL HOME, KIPLING CHAPEL, 2058 Kipling Avenue (north of Rexdale Boulevard), on Saturday, January 21, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Prayer service will take place at 12:30 p.m. in the Chapel. Inurnment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery 7300, Highway 27, Woodbridge. The family would like to extend an invitation to welcome everyone to a celebration of life reception at Viceroy Banquet Hall, 4220 Steeles Avenue West, Vaughan, immediately following the inurnment.
A special thank you to the doctors and nursing staff at William Osler Hospital for the exceptional care that they provided to Harry during his stay. In lieu of flowers, the family will appreciate memorial donations to be made to The Toronto Humane Society or The St. Vincent de Paul Society.
