BURT, Joyce (nee Wood) -
Peacefully at Tall Pines Long Term Care Centre on Monday, January 2, 2023, at the age of 88. Dearly beloved wife of the late Nick Shemko and William Burt. Loving mother of Susan and Drew (Natalie), and step-mother of Steve (Donna) and Trish. Cherished Nana of Nicholas, Emma, Zoe, Emily, and Alexandra. Joyce was predeceased by her parents Albert Wood and Edna (nee Latter), as well as her brothers and sisters: Bart, Wallie, Doreen, Donalda, Marjorie, Eleonor, Don, Leonard, Roland and Lone.
Joyce lived a caring and gentle life and her calming presence always made those around her feel safe and comfortable. She was genuinely interested in everyone’s lives. She treasured her house by the lake and loved to feed the local wildlife. She especially loved cats. She had great pride in her family legacy being one of eleven siblings and often reminisced fondly about family life in Bolton as a child. Her work life was spent dedicated to the Wood family business.
Resting at NEWEDIUK FUNERAL HOME, KIPLING CHAPEL, 2058 Kipling Avenue (North of Rexdale Boulevard), on Saturday, January 7, 2023, from 10 a.m. until service time in the chapel at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at King City Cemetery.
