Obituary for Zeljko Ljubo Bozic

BOZIC, Zeljko Ljubo
(July 31, 1942 – May 14, 2022) -

Zeljko was called to heaven on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at the age of 79. He passed at Humber River Hospital with his loving wife and children at his bedside.

Zeljko was born in the small town of Slum, in Istra, Croatia, and later moved with his parents and sisters to Momjan, also in Istra, at the age of 13. Despite his love of learning, economic hardship forced him to give up formal education. Determined to make a better life for himself and the future family he hoped to have, Zeljko immigrated to Canada in 1963.

In Toronto, he found kinship with a community of fellow immigrants from Istra. Within this group, he forged many life-long friendships and met his wife Dusanka, who he married in 1973. Zeljko devoted himself to his family and to giving his children the comforts and opportunities he did not have growing up; naturally, he always stressed the importance of education. Zeljko was jovial, playful and fun-loving; young children naturally gravitated to him and he to them. He cherished his role as grandfather and doted on his grandsons. Zeljko was a lover of the outdoors who enjoyed camping with his family, hunting with friends, and tending to his vegetable garden.

Zeljko will be greatly missed by his wife Dusanka, his children Joseph (Paula) and Daniela (Robert), his grandchildren Michael, Adam and Daniel, his sisters Angela (the late Stelio) and Grozdana (Sergio), and his nephews Franko (Sonia), Mauro (Sandra) and Maurizio (Milena). Zeljko is joined in heaven by his late granddaughter Maria.
