I was a young boy who grew up across the street from Walter. His son peter, victor and I spent countless hours playing together. One of my favourite memories of Walter was one year for Canada Day our court, a dead end street not legal court, was doing a firework show for all of the families of the court. Suddenly Walter appeared with a helmet on, brought out a wheelbarrow and put a Roman Candle fireworks in the sand of the wheelbarrel on an angle, lit it and ran running down the street screaming at the top of his lungs while firing the Roman Candle off down the street and we all had a good laugh. Years later, in my 20's, Walter and I would often play squash at the skyline hotel courts or Valhalla club. I was pretty good, was playing in tournaments and such, yet he always kicked my butt and I always came home exhausted, both from the play but also from all our laughter. I will always remember him fondly. He was a great neighbor and friend. My dearest condolences to Mrs. Hryciuk, Peter and Karen. With much love and affection Dave Hyland

Wally was truly one of a kind. We lived a couple doors down and he was always there for us. Anyone in trouble? Wall would come and make us laugh. He always saw the brightest and was perhaps the smartest and most savvy man I ever met. He was kind enough to recognize my dad was kind of isolated and I swear he adopted him. (My dad being older by a bit.) George and Wally. They really hit it off and our lives were much better for The Wall. Anytime I came home he was right there. "how are you"? "what are you doing"? "you ok"? He always engaged and challenged. I met Wally at age 14 (64 now) and always looked up to him. Always great advice from the man. Beautifully, I don't believe he ever took any of it too seriously. I and mine will sorely miss him. Struck me as a Canadian George Carlin. Rest well my friend. You deserve it.

We remembered him as "Wally " . We saw him occasionally at the house of his neighbors Ettore , and Isolina , and enjoyed his friendly , humble , warm personality , and great sense of humor . Deeply sorry he is not with us anymore . We , as many others ; will miss him dearly . Our deepest sympathy to Dorothy, Peter , Karen and extended family .
