Obituary for Edwin Kenneth Finnie (Finnie)

FINNIE, Edwin Kenneth -
Edwin Kenneth Finnie passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, March 16, 2020 after a 92-year life of great love for and from family and friends. Ed joins Mary, his wife of 67 years, who passed away on May 7, 2017. Ed lovingly fathered four children, Victoria, David, Larry and John, who miss him greatly and who have raised families who adored their father-in-law, grandfather and great grandfather. Ed loved his family and was excited as it grew through the years. Ed is survived by, Victoria and Bruce Patrick and their sons Andrew and William and his partner Olena Bojchuk; David and Marilyn Finnie and their children Geoffrey and his fiancé Sidita Zhabjaku, Gillian Finnie and her husband Ilia Baranov, and Colin; Larry Finnie and his daughters Jessica and Robyn Finnie and Larry’s wife Monica and her children Nikki and Matthew Rok; and John and Mila Finnie and their daughters Alexandra Finnie and her partner Ryan Taylor and their daughters Maliyah and Addison, and Marysa Finnie. Victoria fondly recalls dad taking us all to movies showing at TCI and dad and Bruce “working” on jobs at the cottage. They would estimate a job would take two days and it would take four with many beer, laughter and redesign breaks. David has loving memories of his father on family camping and canoeing trips, a shared love of photography, the beauty of big band music and his dad’s harmonica joining in, and as a very gentle and caring husband during his mother’s, Mary’s, final years and days. Larry remembers sitting on the floor beside dad playing the harmonica and Dad affectionately stroking his head and tousling his hair, the great toys dad would make like wooden whistles and Christmas stocking gifts for us and grandchildren, and dad teaching us to make kites out of sticks and newspaper and how to go fly a kite! John remembers time spent with dad playing cards at the dining room table and by lantern while camping, great meals and shared time in the kitchen, time spent with dad on various projects at home and the cottage, and a shared passion for vintage aircraft.
