Obituary

CUMMINS, Daninah Joan (nee Baillie) -
With much sadness, but happiness at a life filled with adventure, we say good-bye to our mother, wife and grandmother. Mom was born on March 20, 1931 in the town of Cargill. She grew up in a family of four children (Pat, Fran and Bill). When she was 18 she left home for Teacher’s College in Stratford. She traveled all over the world from Scotland to Germany and beyond. Mom began a teaching career first in the Northwest Territories, then into Northern Ontario (Fort Frances) and finally settling in Toronto. There she would meet her future husband Oliver. They would marry on December 26, 1964. They would raise 5 children. Mom was an avid rug hooker. Her rugs were on display both at home and at the cottage in Southampton where she was happiest. Joan is survived by her husband Oliver (55 years of marriage). Ninah, Jonathan, Darcy (Tanya), Tracy, and Carla (Darren) will fondly remember the infectious laughter that Mom shared. Her grandchildren Ashtyn, Tobin, Isabella, Meghan, and Madelyn will miss the summers at the cottage, illicit pet giving, snuggles and laughter. Friends will be received at NEWEDIUK FUNERAL HOME, KIPLING CHAPEL, 2058 Kipling Avenue (North of Rexdale Boulevard), Toronto, on Monday, July 29, 2019 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Gregory's Church, 122 Rathburn Road, Toronto, on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at 11 a.m. Online condolences at newediukfuneralhome.com

Thank you Jean. We will miss that infectious laughter that you were helpless in the presence of. We will miss her humour and sharing stories with her. I'll pass your thoughts onto my siblings and father.

Thank you for sharing your Mum with her fellow rug hookers at Chantry, in Southampton, and in Ontario. Her infectious llaugh and witty commentary were always "a must". She will be greatly missed. Susan Pulleyblankj

Thank you Susan, her laughter is one of the things I'll miss so much about her. It was infectious wasn't it. You had no choice but to join in.

Our sympathy to all the family. We miss Joan's enduring friendships in Southampton-especially our Wednesday afternoon hook-ins. I think Joan liked the socialness of rug hooking as much as the hooking! Our afternoons at her cottage will never be forgotten.

I'm very sad to hear of the loss of Joan. I know my Mom always enjoyed her trips to see her sister, particularly in her later years. My deepest condolences.

Thank you Kurt. She loved going to your mom's as well. I still giggle when I think of visiting your sister and Aunt Pat saying 'hello you old bat' to Mom when I handed her my phone.
