Obituary

MALFARA, Joe -
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of their dear Joe on Wednesday June 26th at the age of 70. Loving and devoted husband of Olga for 46 years. Cherished father of Danielle and her husband Joseph Ohannessian. Adoring Nonno of David Joseph. Dear brother of Mary (Tony) Apa, Lisa (the late Joe) Malfara and Frank (the late Margaret) Malfara. Dear brother-in-law to Tamara Harbar and Darren Redfern. Fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Joe was born in Vallelonga, Calabria, Italy and immigrated to Canada with his siblings at the young age of twelve. Joe began his retail career as a Sales Associate with Agnew-Surpass Shoes and later with the Hudson Bay Company. Joe’s love for shoes and his dream of owning his own shoe store led him to open his first store, Village Shoes, on Bloor St. in the Kingsway. He went on to open a Ecco store in Vaughan Mills and Fara J Shoes in Humbertown Shopping Centre. Joe was very proud and dedicated to his business and was very sad to close his stores due to his failing health. Joe will be missed by his many long time clients, employees, and business associates. Resting at NEWEDIUK FUNERAL HOME, KIPLING CHAPEL, 2058 Kipling Avenue (North of Rexdale Boulevard), Monday from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Transfiguration of Our Lord Church, 45 Ludstone Drive, Toronto on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. Entombment at Westminster Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation would be greatly appreciated. Online condolences at newediukfuneralhome.com

I ONLY LEARNED OF jOE'S PASSING THIS PAST WEEKEND. ...ii i HAD HEARD that the Cancer had returned, and dropped into Humbertown to see him. Unfortunately it was the last day, and Frank was literately locking the store for the last time.
I had known Joe since his store on Bloor Street, he was very knowledgeable in the business, had a great eye for fashion, and what his customers would like to purchase. His store was always immaculate and footwear presentation was A-one.
He was also great with his staff, and in turn they gave great service to their customers, some going on, on their own with great success.
Joe, you will be missed, you were a great retailer, and I considered you as a good Friend.
Sympathies to your Family.

Joe made coming to work an enjoyable experience every day, his sharp wit and his sense of humor always kept you laughing. His stories and his love for good food always made for interesting conversations. He will be truly missed at Humbertown and in life. A great human being all around. Keep smiling Joe
