Obituary

FUKUMOTO, Janice Marie -
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our Jan, wife, mother and grandmother, on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Belleville General Hospital at the age of 61. Loving wife of Robert (Bob) for 38 years. Devoted and faithful mother of Johnny (Jen), Sarah (Mike) Nugent and Erin (Jackson). Proud and adoring Grammie of Jack, Bruce, Billie and Dean. Cherished sister of Shane (the late Marg) Foreman and Brian (Nancy) Foreman. Predeceased by her parents Francis John and Frances Evelynne Foreman. Jan will be sadly missed by her mother-in-law Ruby Fukumoto, Auntie Phyllis Morita and Uncle Maurice Morita. Jan will be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Jan was a respected leader in the field of Autism and a retired Special Education Teacher for the Toronto District School Board. She will forever be remembered for her kindness, integrity, advocacy for children and dedication and mentorship to her students and colleagues over the years. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends for visitation at NEWEDIUK FUNERAL HOME, KIPLING CHAPEL, 2058 Kipling Avenue, Toronto (North of Rexdale Boulevard), on Friday, May 24, 2019 from 2–4 and 7–9 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at Richview Baptist Church, 1548 Kipling Avenue, Toronto, on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at 11 a.m. (The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until service time.) In lieu of flowers, donations to International Teams Canada - Impact Romania would be appreciated. Online condolences at newediukfuneralhome.com

Jan was so many things to so many of us, just to mention a few . . . a strong champion for students with Autism, a caring leader for our ASD team, a mentor and friend to so many, a neighbour, a compassionate listener, someone who didn’t provide us with all the solutions but somehow got us to find the right path or next steps to take . . . You made us all dig deep.
You were our friend and neighbour and always there for all of us. Most important you were an amazing mom to three incredibly strong children and their speeches today were heartfelt and an inspiration to us all, and you were a grandma to four beautiful grandchildren, you were so much to so many, the list is endless.
I’ll miss our walks, morning coffees on the front porch and our wine on the back deck.
We will all miss you, The Haring’s; Brian, Arlene, Robbie and Kelly

As I participate today in a Walk to Support Cancer today and am saddened at missing my dear friends Celebration of Life, I know she would support me in fulfilling my obligation to our ‘team’ today....that’s because that is just who Jan was. I am with her and her family and friends in spirit and cry for her as well as all those who have touched my life that I am walking for today. She lived her life with her priorities in the right place with her loving husband and family at her heart and soul. But that same passion, kindness and support extended to her life career as well as an educator of individuals with special needs and she demonstrated this every day with her students, parents and colleagues. What a wonderful demonstration of God’s love Jan’s life was. He has taken her early...so I believe He has other plans for her. I am grateful and honoured to have called Jan my friend and colleague. I knew she was the person that had to take over the Autism role when I retired....and she made retiring so much easier for me knowing she would be there. My deepest sympathies to Bob and all of her family that she cherished so much. My Gold hold you in the Palm of His hand.

She has and always will be a friend and I will always see that awesome smile every time I think of her . My deepest condolences to the family . She will be missed but always remembered. Anne Ricci
