Condolence: This was written upon Jeanette's passing, and although late to publicize, is worth expressing:

Thank you for the honour of getting to officially change your title from 'Mum' to 'Gramma'.

Thank you for genetically passing along your witchiness - your intellect, fearlessness, promiscuity and sass - these parts of you will always be parts of me. Thank you for the lessons on laughing at and loving myself.

Thank you for demonstrating how a little can go a long way. Thank you for looking after me whenever I was ill. Thank you for understanding that money isn't necessary for a good time. Thank you for so many belly-aching laughs over the dumbest things.

Thank you for providing countless meals, each as uniquely flavourful as your personality, & for always having a seat for one more at your table. Thank you for proving that family is acceptance & for ensuring I know your loved ones as my loved ones. Thank you for making Christmas so special for a bunch of little kids.

Thank you for teaching me that a stuck-out tongue or a stuck-up finger is a perfectly acceptable response when required. Thank you for the frequent pick-ups from school, knowing I wasn't usually 'sick', but taking the time out of your day to bring me to your place & hangout anyway. Thank you for being my best friend for a long time.

Thank you for making visits to the farm, Uncle Lloyd&Auntie Eileen's, St Jacobs, London, & the Stouffville Flea Market all staples of my childhood. Thank you for the introduction to Scrabble, Petticoat Junction, Bob Barker, various cusswords, Johnny Cash, Cheech&Chong, scratch tickets, and a fascination with true crime & celebrity gossip. Thank you for the weekly phone calls for over twenty years, and especially for always remembering to call on my birthday. Thank you for your squishy hugs & cherry pies.

Thank you for trying your best to accommodate the demands of your family, being pulled in a million directions at once. I'm sorry that you never recovered from the heartbreak of losing Scott, and for how I allowed that change within you to affect our relationship. I'm sorry for your hardships, and for the consequences of certain choices outlasting generations. I promise to do better.

Thank you for your unconditional love, may you always feel mine. I hope you are in a happier place Gramma.

Condolence: I shared this at Jeanette's interment:
Jeanette and I were very close as kids. She was the fun big sister who would let me tag along once in a while. As circumstances changed and she moved about we didn't see each other as often. But we were often there for each other. When my kids had chicken pox she took time off work to watch them when I had to be away. Jeanette stayed with us after her bi-pass surgery. She and Pat would come and house sit when we were on vacation.
She had a quirky sense of humour, some would say warped. She loved to reminisce about past events. She was known to embellish these stories. Often others wouldn't remember them the same way. Pat would often like to give her take on the situation. I like to think of them up in heaven now bickering about what exactly happened.
She had a lot of heartbreak and trauma in her life and she coped as best she could. Thankfully, she is now at peace with no more pain.
As Andrea said in her humourous obituary, Jeanette would say, "That we would miss her like a whole in the head", but in truth we will all miss her very much. She has left a little whole in our hearts.

I’m sorry to hear about your Mom. As a young kid, I remember her as being very natural and easy to talk to. She was a good friend to Mom and a frequent visitor.

Very sorry to hear about the loss of Jeanette.

She lived with dad for many years and was always watchful for him getting home safely. They became good companions while Chris and I were off raising our families. She included him in all family events. Jeanette was always mindful he was not forgotten or was quick to call us if she felt something was not right at the house. I know they enjoyed their after work drink together. And we all enjoyed her cooking!

A loss for all of us.

Condolence: I didn't get to see Jeanette very often in adult years but have very fond memories of our trips to see Uncle Herb, Aunt Kay and our wonderful cousins. RIP Jeanette and take comfort in being reunited with those who have passed before you.
