Condolence From: Dr. Nasra Warsame
Condolence: I wanted to tell someone, anyone who knew her, how much Dr. Rossi meant to me. She not only wrote my recommendation letter for admission to medical school, she mentored me, encouraged me to strive harder. She was a symbol of a powerful, educated black woman who was gifted with grace, compassion and eloquence. I would look at her and imagine what it would be like to wear her white coat and follow in her footsteps. She allowed us young black students to take over the medical campus every summer at UofT. She made us feel welcome and special.

The day she became most endearing to me started by an invitation to attend a function for medical schools. There was a conference for all medical schools in North America hosted by University of Toronto that was being held at the four seasons in Toronto. Dr. Rossi invited me along with Diana Alli and they allowed me to be in charge of registering the participants. I had the chance to meet all the admissions teams from many schools including Harvard, MIT, Yale and all over. As an undergrad student at UofT who felt so small and lost in a big pond, I always felt home when I was in the summer mentorship program and with my mentors. Dr. Rossi would introduce me as a future medical student to everyone I met at that conference. After attending that conference, I realized the room I was given to stay in on the top floor was paid for and reserved for Dr. Rossi. She gave it to me so I would experience a weekend with top physicians and attend the conferences feeling like I was a part of something great. What that did for this young girl who was so timid and never experienced the thrill of meeting so many distinguished people at a posh hotel, no one will ever know. She gifted me so much, and yet was so humble.

Even when I said thank you, I don't think she understood how much she moved my world. Most importantly she taught me to work hard and to help motivate and mentor others. Rest in peace Dr. Rossi.

Condolence: Dr. Rossi was one of my first mentors. Through her work in the summer mentorship program and her continued interest in me after my participation, Dr. Rossi set the stage for me to become the surgeon that I am today. I am sorry that she is gone so soon. My condolences to the Rossi family. Your wife, mother, grandmother was truly as gift to this world. She will be missed.

Condolence From: Ernesto Guiraldes, M.D.
Condolence: I'm deeply saddened to learn of Mimi Rossi's death. Dr Rossi was one of my dearest and closest friends while I was a Fellow at Sick Kids. It's 40 years this month since I was introduced to her, whereupon she became my guide and counselor at the hospital.

Her friendly, supportive and compassionate mien, endeared her to all of her acquaintances, patients and the public in general - her strong commitment to diversity and health equity in medical care are already legendary.

From Santiago, Chile I'd wish to express my sincere sympathy to our dear friend's family.

Condolence: An incredible woman and role model. Thank you for all you did for the black community and marginalized youths. Most especially, thanks for co founding the summer mentorship program which I benefited from. Thanks to your efforts, there are now more black people in the higher tiers of the health sciences in Canada. You helped many black youths see a vision and set a career path that might have been beyond their imagination. You were such a source of encouragement and a role model. Your legacy will live on.

Extending my condolence to the family. My prayers are with you at this difficult time. May her soul rest in peace and may God be with those she left behind.
