Obituary for Kathleen Mary Hawley (Harris)

Kathleen Mary Hawley (Harris)
HAWLEY, Kathleen (Kay) Mary (nee Harris) -

On Sunday, April 15, 2018, we lost our beloved mother, Kathleen Mary Hawley. She died peacefully at Deerwood Creek Care Community two days before her ninety-fifth birthday.

Mom was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on April 17, 1923. After high school, she attended Dalhousie University, where she earned a diploma in Pharmacy. She worked in Carroll's Drugstore in Glace Bay until she met and married the love of her life, our Dad, Bill Hawley. On the day of their wedding, September 19, 1944, they boarded a train to travel to Peterborough, Ontario, where Dad, a newly graduated electrical engineer, had been offered a job with the General Electric Company. He was soon transferred to Toronto, where they settled and raised six children together. Dad died in January, 1980, and Mom never stopped grieving for him. After his death, her life centred around her family. She was always there for them, always ready whenever help was needed, always thinking of them before herself. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed.

Mom leaves her children, Kathryn Twynam (Bob), Barbara Hawley, Bill Hawley (Lynn), Anne Durante (Tony), Patrick Hawley, and Lynne Fusca (Joe). She also leaves twelve beloved grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, her sister Betty Davison of Elora, Ontario, her brother and sister-in-law Guy and Cathy Harris of Ben Eoin, Nova Scotia, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her infant son John, her sister Joan, and her brother Jim.

Mom's life will be celebrated during visitation at NEWEDIUK FUNERAL HOME, KIPLING CHAPEL, 2058 Kipling Avenue (North of Rexdale Boulevard), on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Benedict Church, 2194 Kipling Avenue, on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
