My fondest memories of Uncle Jim are at the cottage on Balsam Lake. Every summer he would patiently drive the boat so we could all learn to waterski -- some more successfully than others. His reward was usually a sunburn but he never complained. A trip into Coby usually involved getting gas for the boat and a stop for ice cream as we would all pile into the van -- first passenger van I had ever seen. Evenings were for playing cards at the dining room table and he taught us a number of card games over the summers. I still remember watching the Apollo landing on the TV with Uncle Jim and the rest of the family as we all strained to see this historic event on the one channel that the cottage TV got. Uncle Jim and Aunt Edna were on board helping me pull off a surprise 25th wedding anniversary for my parents -- Art and Jose Daulman. Uncle Jim would meet me at the door to take all of the food as I would sneak over to unload my car. It was an awesome event. I still remember my mother, Jose, telling me stories of the 3 comrades when they were young -- my father Art, Bob Parrot and Uncle Jim. Over the years what with work and family, we didn't always take the time we should have taken to visit, but that didn't mean we didn't think about Uncle Jim. He will be missed.
