Some observations about Don
I'd like to share, in my opinion, just some of Don's finer points...
He was non-judgmental - Don never criticized those around him or brought anyone down, no matter what he might have internalized. He had an incredible level of professionalism with clients, he was highly recommended as a result. He was great with all people, from the elderly to the very young.
He was humorous - Don's wit and mirth was hard to match, he had an innate sense of timing and whimsy, rarely cynical, but incisive now and then. That will be missed greatly by many.
He was talented and creative - Don as a musician was lately blossoming into being a percussionist more so than a frequent drummer, and while he pursued both, he was very fond of going back to natural instruments and organic rhythms. Beyond musicianship, Don's ears were highly tuned and adept and listening and hence crafting beautiful end products from that which he mixed. His work with audio was his favourite thing, though he was dabbling in video projects also.
Don was quite loveable - I cannot think of anyone who disliked Don. Once you got to know him, and as I watched others do so, it was apparent to me that there was an aura of goodness which made people want to be accepted by him. We should all be so lucky.
Everyone's mentor - Don has thousands of students in many walks of life - he has helped so many in so many different ways, this is perhaps his greatest strength and achievement. I learned much from Don, and will miss my teacher going forward. I'm hoping he will watch over me and guide my hands on the mixer...
