Obituary for Robert John Carney

CARNEY, Robert John -
We lost a great man. Robert (Bob, R.J., Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Uncle, Coach, boss and friend) in his 91st year, died peacefully at home on Januart 25, 2019 with his devoted wife and 7 children by his side. Bob will be missed by all those who were lucky enough to have known him. He will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, incredible positivity and power-packed passion and exuberance for life, his (sometimes) fabulous sense of humour and his extraordinary gift for story and joke telling. He was an entertainer and musician (singer, piano, organ and accordion player). He played it all, and all by ear. He had passion and love for the game of golf (like no other), including an impressive 8 hole-in-one’s, played in the British Masters Pro-Am, and was a long time member of Weston G&CC, Burlington Springs G&CC and Delray Dunes G&CC. Bob married his one and only true love, Denise (O’Shaughnessy), his wife of 67 years. A beautiful love story of devotion and caring. He had incredible love and pride for all of his family, his 7 children: Denis (Leslie), Steve (Deborah), Pat (Joe O’Brien), Kevin (Chris), Paul, John, Nancy (Scott Cunningham). His 31 amazing grandchildren: Rob, Shaun (Tammy), James (Melissa), James (Kimberley), Jordan (Karen), Christopher (Kiera), Jason (Amelia), Bryan (Stephie), John (Natasha), Drew (Chelsea), Stephen (Eden), Amanda (Brenden), Laura, Jaclyn, Keri, Matthew, Jordan, Nathan, Shannon and Kristyn. And 15 adorable great-grandchildren: Kaiya, Gabriel, Austin, Emma, Sophia, Jack, Joel, Kipton, Kennedy, Laurel, Liam, Kayde, Brooke, Ivy and Madelyn. Bob will truly be missed. He was one of those “once in a lifetime extraordinary people”. The family’s hearts are saddened by their loss, but all who have known him take comfort in his deep faith in God, and will remember him with smiles and many fond memories.
The Carney children thank their dad for his incredible passion and joy for living that exuded from him, something that is hard to even put into words for those who haven’t experienced him. Blessed to have called him Dad. He was a gift to all who were privileged to have met him, worked for him and who were loved by him.
