CHAPMAN, Allan Purvis (born April 25, 1938) -
Passed away peacefully on Monday, April 17, 2017 at the age of 78. A businessman, mentor, entrepreneur, loyal friend and family man, he lived a rich life. Allan was born to parents William Chapman and Kathleen (nee Purvis) in Toronto. He grew up in Moore Park, attending Whitney Public School and North Toronto Collegiate where he played football and most importantly met his wife, Donna, with whom he had a wonderful marriage for more than 55 years. After attending Huron College at the University of Western Ontario Allan’s entrepreneurial instinct motivated him to enter into his first venture - the Christmas tree business. Fortunately for his bride this venture was short lived, and Allan continued on with a long and successful career working in various roles with Baton Broadcasting/Glen Warren Productions. Here, he was able to incorporate his love of deal making, television and film and travel into his work. Los Angeles business trips routinely included a stop over in Salt Lake City for a visit to Alta or Snowbird accompanied by one of his lucky children. The family spent every summer at Stoney Lake – where Allan’s heart lay and where he created a place that was always welcoming to family and friends. Here, his unbeaten winning streak of the annual Golden Prop Award is legend. Friends were plentiful and of utmost importance to Allan. An avid runner, skier and boater with a competitive spirit, Allan shared these passions with his friends, many of whom he had known most of his adult life and whose friendships he always treasured. A great storyteller with a sense for adventure, some of his fondest memories revolved around Stoney Lake and ski trips to Europe and Western Canada/USA. Throughout his life Allan took the time to help individuals with a hand up. He was always willing to “help anyone who would help themselves”. Alongside his business endeavours Allan contributed back to society through his work with The Children’s Aid Society and The Upper Stoney Lake Association.
Allan, together with Donna, created a home for their three children that was warm and welcoming and filled with laughter and love. Allan is survived by his loving wife Donna (nee Matheson), son Mark (Mari Kluge) and his daughters Stacey (Simon Bragg) and Alyson (Andy Donovan), as well as six grandchildren; Anders, Mats, Tomas, Katie, Peirce and Charlie.
